The webinar will have following sessions.
First Session: Controlling Stem Cell Fate through Intracellular Trafficking
First Session starts at 11:00AM and is expected to be over by 11:45AM.
Guest Speaker
Dr. Deepa Subramanyam, PhD
Scientist
National Centre for Cell Science
Pune, India
Dr. Deepa Subramanyam is currently working as a Scientist in National Centre for Cell Science, Pune, India.
She served as Intermediate Fellow in Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance, India. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Robert Blelloch's Lab in the University of California at San Francisco. She has done her Integrated MSc-PhD in National Centre for Biological Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bangalore.
Dr. Deepa Subramanyam is interested in aspects of cellular trafficking that differ between embryonic stem cells and differentiated cells. Her team is primarily focusing on the role of endocytosis in cell fate determination. This work is important in embryonic stem cell development and for understanding early mammalian development.
She is a recipient of several awards, a few are
- Intermediate Fellow Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance, India.
- DBT Ramalingaswami Fellowship.
- UCSF PBBR (Program for Breakthrough Biomedical Research) Fellowship.
- UCSF Postdoctoral Scholar Research Award.
- Kanwal Rekhi Scholarship for Career Development.
- ICRETT fellowship granted by The International Union Against Cancer (UICC), Geneva.
Second Session: The Concept of Cancer Stem Cells: Progress and Promises
Second Session starts at 06:00PM and is expected to be over by 06:45PM.
Guest Speaker
Dr. Sandeep Singh, PhD
Associate Professor
National Institute of Biomedical Genomics
West Bengal, India
Dr. Sandeep Singh is currently working as an Associate Professor in National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, West Bengal, India.
He was a Post Doctoral Fellow in H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Centre And Research Institute, USA. He pursued his doctorate in PhD Cancer Biology in National Centre for Cell Science, Pune, India. He did his Master of Science in Biotechnology from Himachal Pradesh University, India.
Dr. Sandeep Singh has a broad background in cancer biology with specific training and expertise in stem-cell biology of cancer, tumor microenvironment and cellular signaling. His research interest includes mechanistic understanding of genetic and epigenetic heterogeneity associated with aggressive tumor behaviour.
Dr. Sandeep Singh has contributed to understand the role of stem-like cancer cells in aggressive cancer behaviour. He returned back to home country and achieved a highly competitive grant funded by Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance. With the help of this grant, he established the necessary infrastructure and initiated a project to define mechanism of heterogeneity among stem-like cancer cells and its functional interaction with the niche.
Dr. Sandeep Singh is carrying out in-depth investigations on oral tumor biology and currently emphasizing on gingivobuccal oral cancer. His work has recently revealed the surprising diversity among fibroblast within the microenvironment of oral tumor as responsible factor for differences in stemness of oral cancer cells. Study suggests that myofibroblast differentiation of stromal-fibroblast provide more conducive environment for aggressive self-renewal of oral-cancer stem cells through differential expression of certain genes.
Dr. Sandeep Singh was awarded as Intermediate Fellow from Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance, India.
Host
Both the sessions of the webinar are to be managed and hosted by Mr Parthasarathy, MSc in Plant Sciences.
