The webinar will have following sessions.
First Session: Phytoplasmas that transform the plants into Zombies
First Session starts at 11:00 AM on 19th December and is expected to be over by 11:45 AM.
Guest Speaker
Dr. Amit Yadav
Scientist
National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS),
Pune, India
Dr Amit Yadav is currently working as a Scientist in National Centre for Microbial Resource (NCMR), in National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune, India.
He had pursued his doctorate in Differential Expression Studies of Sugarcane Grassy Shoot (SCGS) Phytoplasma as his Ph. D. Thesis from the University of Pune, India
Dr Amit Yadav had completed his Post-Graduation and Graduation in Botany with specialisation in Plant biotechnology from the University of Pune.
His research group is involved in researching ‘not yet cultivated’, obligate plant pathogen, Candidatus phytoplasma (Mollicutes) biology involving its epidemiology, detection and diagnosis, weed, woody and cultivated plant hosts, new insect vectors, factors involved in its transmission, genomics, effector protein biology and taxonomy, since 2013.
Dr Amit Yadav is engaged in new and effective and efficient strategies for phytoplasma detection and diagnosis, genome enrichment, sequencing strategies, mining phytoplasma genome and genome-based phytoplasma taxonomy and his group is aimed to work further on mining mollicute genomes with respect to understand their reductive evolution, diversity of effector genes and proteins, and the transmission of these bacteria from one host to another.
Second Session: Multi-scale analyses impart mechanistic insights on plant responses to global climate change
Second Session starts at 11:00 AM on 20th December and is expected to be over by 11:45 AM.
Guest Speaker
Dr. Gaurav Zinta
Senior Scientist
CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT)
Palampur, India
Dr. Gaurav Zinta recently joined as a Senior Scientist in the Biotechnology Division at CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.
In 2010, he availed FWO Fellowship to pursue his Ph.D. (2010-2014) from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. After completion of his Ph.D., he worked as a PostDoc fellow in the same University for a short duration. In August 2015, he received a PostDoc Fellowship from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) to work at the Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology, Center of Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences, CAS, China.
The key areas of his research interest include integrative molecular plant stress physiology, climate change biology, genome editing, epigenetics, and chemical genetics.
During Ph.D., he worked on how plants respond and adapt to global climate change. Arabidopsis and European grassland species were used to elucidate the impact of climate changes. Specifically, he used multi-scale analyses (spanning from genes to ecosystem levels) to decipher plastic and adaptive plant responses to combinatorial (high CO2, heat and drought) and long-term/transgenerational stresses. Such integrative analysis is crucial to get deeper insights into plant processes and develop climate change adaptation strategies in the future.
During his PostDoc he worked on the aspects of plant stress epigenetics and chemical-genetics. Also, he used gene-editing (CRISPR/Cas9) to manipulate gene function to develop plants best suited to grow under harsh environmental conditions.
So far, he has published 31 peer-reviewed articles and 2 book chapters in top-notch journals including Nature Communications, Global Change Biology, Journal of Experimental Botany, New Phytologist, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Biotechnology Advances, Trends in Plant Sciences, etc. He participated in several training courses and conferences across the globe including Germany, Ireland, Poland, France, Belgium, Netherlands etc. He is a member of editorial boards of several journals. For example, he is a Feature Editor for Molecular Plant, and Associate Editor for Plant-Environment Interactions; and CABI Agriculture and Bioscience. He is serving as a Review Editor for Frontier in Plant Science, and Frontiers in Genetics. He also participates in several science outreach programs and was selected as a Plantae Fellow-2019 (American Society of Plant Biology) and eLife Ambassador-2019 to communicate science to broader audience.
